Civic Engagement
Machik's civic engagement work grows understanding and commitment for Tibet.
For many years Machik has pioneered peacebuilding dialogues among Tibetans, Chinese, and the global community. From our beginning in grassroots service and education work in a remote rural township of Tibet, Machik has grown to become a unique and respected platform for a global conversation about civic engagement, youth empowerment, and individual responsibility toward our collective future. Drawn together by a shared concern for Tibet's contemporary challenges, Tibetan, Chinese and citizens from around the world convene at Machik events to learn, share, and participate in dynamic and thoughtful conversations about crucial issues that are often divisive .
Through events like the annual Machik Fest and Machik Retreat, Tibetan, Chinese, and global citizens participate in forums to reflect on their differences while also developing a shared sense of stake in a transformative future for Tibet. The effect of Machik’s programs such as Khabda and Kora is to grow awareness about Tibet's daunting challenges and about the creativity of cultural producers in Tibet while strengthening the global community's commitment to sustainable peace and reconciliation through civic engagement.
