The Tsering and Pencho Rabgey Medical Education Fund is a grant of 600 USD to be awarded to three Tibetan medical students in India at the intermediate stage of their medical education. Recipients will have the opportunity to be mentored by advanced medical practitioners and healthcare professionals who are committed to fostering compassionate healthcare, global health equity and community well-being. Candidates should demonstrate strong academic and clinical performance as well as outstanding dedication to the care and service of others. The aim of the award is to nurture the medical education of promising Tibetan medical students in India who demonstrate uncommon character, integrity and humanitarian spirit. This scholarship honors the legacy of Pencho and Tsering Rabgey in their unwavering devotion to the education of Tibetans from underserved communities and to their commitment to community service and compassionate care for others. 
 
SELECTION CRITERIA
 
The selection for the Tsering and Pencho Rabgey Medical Education Award will be based on an evaluation of candidates’ achievements, record of commitment to service and potential to contribute to the quality of medical practice in Tibetan communities. The following criteria will be taken into consideration during the selection process:


  • Academic Excellence: Candidates should demonstrate strong performance in medical school and other relevant training programs. 
  • Clinical Experience: Candidates should demonstrate strong clinical experience. This may include volunteering in health care settings, attending workshops and training programs to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Initiative and Leadership: Candidates who have shown initiative in efforts to drive positive change in healthcare delivery for Tibetan communities and healthcare systems will be preferred.
  • Ethical Standing: Candidates must uphold high ethical standards and demonstrate their commitment to the ethical practice of medicine.
  • Future Impact: The potential impact the candidate is likely to have on the medical community, patient care, and healthcare outcomes will also be considered.

SELECTION PROCESS
 
An application will consist of:
  • a personal statement
  • three letters of recommendation
  • curriculum vitae
  • copy of academic transcripts
 
Personal Statement: The candidate's personal statement should convey their intentions and aspirations, why they think they should be given the scholarship and explain how they plan to make a difference in serving the medical or healthcare needs of communities in India.
 
Letters of Recommendation: The application requires two letters of recommendation from medical professionals or faculty advisors who can attest to the candidate's capabilities, skills and performance as a medical student, researcher or practitioner. The third letter of recommendation should come from a mentor who can attest to the candidate’s character, qualities and commitment to service.
