For over two decades our work has grown and pivoted with changing conditions in an uncertain context. Throughout, we have endeavored to serve Tibetan communities, to build bridges between Tibet and the diaspora, and to grow a global community committed to a stronger future for Tibet.
Our Foundational Work
Education
We believe that education is a core way to strengthen human capacity. Our commitment has ranged from building Tibetan language based schools for over a thousand first generation students in rural Kham, Tibet, to supporting girls and women’s education from middle school to PhDs in Amdo, Tibet.

Youth Leadership
We have fostered new generations of bright and responsible young Tibetans through global mentorship opportunities and enrichment programs that convene Tibetan, Chinese, and global students for unique new encounters and transformative experiential learning.

One of our main priorities has always been to innovate ways to level the structural inequalities Tibetan women face. We have supported thousands of rural girls and women through education and also encouraged their leadership capacity.

Machik helped seed and incubate the Tibet Governance Project, a civic dialogue and research initiative that develops new insights on governance challenges in Tibet. Currently based at George Washington University, the Tibet Governance Project continues to provide new knowledge and perspectives for the development of Machik programs.
