Jamyang Tenzin
Jamyang Tenzin started of as a six year old in our Chungba Primary School and is from the first cohort of Chungba students. He has now graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelors Degree. Read what he wrote when he first came to the University of Toronto.
My name is Jamyang Tenzin and I am from Chungba, Lithang, Tibet. It has been two weeks since I arrived at the University of Toronto. My experience at U of T thus far has been very exciting, fun, fulfilling and at the same time it has been overwhelming. It is very hard to believe that I am in this prestigious university now. Ten years ago, I was living in a rural village of Tibet, my beloved motherland, where I had been herding yaks and cows. I didn’t even own a book. Going to primary school, not to mention university, was out of my imagination until Machik came to Tibet to empower Tibetan children by building schools and creating new and sustainable educational opportunities.
Ever since then, thousands of my Tibetan brothers and sisters and I have been sponsored and cared for by Machik.
Every day when I step into these humongous lecture halls with so many intelligent and fortunate people from around the world, I realize how fortunate I am to be able to attend such a prestigious university where the possibilities are endless. On behalf of my Tibetan brothers and sisters in Tibet, I wish to thank all of Machik and all Machik friends for their continued support.
