Winter Enrichment Program
An educational enrichment program
for Tibetan students in Tibet
for Tibetan students in Tibet
Machik's Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) manifests Machik's values of education, mentorship, and community service. The first cohort of Machik Khelen Scholars, the first Chungba students to enter college, took the initiative to start the WEP after attending SEP many times over the years and having long attended Chungba schools, they are motivated to give back to the community by leading the way for the younger students.
How it Works
WEP works closely with Chungba students in order to gain an understanding of how they are progressing in school and to provide tools to help them become better students. During WEP, Machik volunteers meet with MKF students to review the past semester and organize workshops for MKF students in order to help prepare them for the upcoming semester. The program takes place in February in Chungba. Students are asked to participate in free writing activities, think critically and debate about contemporary issues and reflect on the past semester. They also work together to give team presentations on specific volunteer projects they completed during the winter holidays. Machik volunteers help students work on constructing detailed plans for the upcoming semester to help organize their studies and activities. Students are also given advice and tips on how to handle personal finance especially with college approaching. WEP provides students with a Gaokao mentor to answer any questions they might have pertaining to academics or other thoughts about their future education.

Through the Winter Enrichment Program, students are introduced to Machik's history and programs such as Machik Weekend. Machik understands the importance of education for future generations, and the Winter Enrichment Program is a way to ensure that Tibetan students have access to resources and mentors to assist them with their academic endeavors.
