Mentorship
We are committed to fostering a new generation of bright and responsible Tibetans through mentorship programs
Tibetan students often face major challenges when transitioning to college. Many young Tibetans in Tibet are often unprepared when they first arrive on a college campus. As first-generation students from rural villages, many of them are unaware and poorly equipped to transition smoothly to college life in a major city. Navigating a new environment as a young adult with abundant free time and countless distractions is a given challenge for most college students, but even more so for first-generation students. Although many of these students reached college through sheer determination and perseverance, a significant portion fail to transition successfully to college life. Many end up making poor decisions that ultimately harm their ability to flourish and succeed in college due to lack of role models and mentors to guide and support them. In the face of these challenges, the Machik Mentoring Program offers a strong support system to guide and encourage bright and talented Tibetan students. Through Machik Mentors (MM), mentorship will now be at the center of Machik’s college education support program. While mentorship has always been a priority at Machik, Machik Mentors will provide a systematic program as a bridge to guide and support Tibetan students from Tibet through their college careers. Students will be matched with mentors based on their interests and career goals.
