MACHIK Film SCREENINGS

Picture
Machik Film Screening, 2019 in Cambridge, MA. Yayla Tribal Rugs hosted a screening of "Tharlo" by Pema Tseden.
Machik Film Screenings (MFS) are community partnered opportunities to screen and discuss the innovative and vital work of Tibetan filmmakers from inside Tibet. Machik works with volunteer hosts from around the world to reach new audiences and grow global support for Tibet. Through the screenings, we offer more in-depth facilitated discussions and readings about the uncertainty of contemporary Tibet. Screenings are tailored to suit a range of local audiences. MFS fosters a growing global audience to engage in focused conversation and learn more together about Tibet. When possible, we invite Tibetan filmmakers from Tibet to speak at the screenings, which is a rare opportunity for audiences to engage directly with cultural producers from Tibet. MFS has already screened in the following places: Singapore, New Delhi, Prague, Toronto, New York, Washington, D.C, Boston, Vancouver, Victoria, Portland, Eugene, Berkeley, St Paul/Minneapolis, Madison WI, Oberlin College, University of Connecticut, and more.

Sacred Arrow (2014) by Pema Tseden, is a love story in Tibet about archery, expectations, and the meaning of winning in a time of change.

The late Pema Tseden was born to a pastoralist family in Amdo and later became a school teacher who published bilingually to critical acclaim. He was the first Tibetan to graduate from the Beijing Film Academy and in 2005 his first feature film, Silent Holy Stones, won the prestigious Golden Rooster Award for Best Directorial Début. Since then, his many films, including Tharlo (2015) and Snow Leopard (2023), have won many awards around the world.
