Interns & Volunteers
Machik seeks program interns and volunteers committed to
bringing positive change in the world.
bringing positive change in the world.
Machik's work began in 1998 as an all-volunteer organization. Much of our work is still done by a team of dedicated Program Interns as well as Volunteers who are Tibetan, Chinese and global citizens. Our growing network plays a vital role in programs, public outreach, and fundraising efforts. Many Program Interns at Machik are university students but our team of volunteers represent a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, ages, and professional expertise.
Machik's inclusive model for constructive change requires a wide range of experiences and knowledge sets from our volunteers assisting with programming in a variety of settings. Experience in graphic design, video production, international education, community development, conservation, and fundraising would be especially welcome. We also welcome support in areas such as marketing, web development, public health and multilingual translation. You will work with Machik’s staff on a wide range of programs and in administration.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Please send your resume and letter of interest to [email protected].

Profiles
"I finished my internship with a mind buzzing with new experiences: lunch conversations about social change, Tibetan identity, and more with the staff and interns, discussions with change-makers like Aziz Abu Sarah, and amazing stories about past SEPs or TGAP Forums. I've gotten the motivation to keep working and expanding my horizons."
— Lekey Leidecker "Working with Machik always reminds me to look for hope in times of despair and to find light in the darkness. To me, Machik means pushing forward with compassion and thoughtfulness, which is an outlook I will always cherish."
— Kyler Phillips |
"When someone is having a bit of a challenge finding the right canvas and cause, Machik fills that gap and suddenly, the dots are connecting. What I find cool about Machik is it brings inspiration and ideas. I am lucky to be a part of this community. "
-- Jamyang Tenzin "Interning at Machik was a life changing experience for me. I was constantly in awe of all the Tibetan innovators in Tibet who have kept Tibetan entrepreneurship alive and well. Learning about them taught me about the brilliant minds of Tibetans and gave me hope about a brighter future for Tibet. My time at Machik was filled with growth, learning, community, and love."
— Tenzin Dickyi |
"I have always believed that two things are vitally important for all: education and intercultural communication. Machik does just this. SEP does just this. Thanks to Machik, some kids I taught at SEP in 2010 are now in college. I have more faith in humanity and perseverance. " — Lulu Liu
"Over the course of volunteering at SEP and interning at the D.C office, I had the opportunity to see how effective Machik is at engaging with individuals in Tibet to actively cultivate improvement. Machik is a powerhouse of creative and diplomatic solutions to tough situations."
