Eastern Sierra Friends of Machik

In 2005 Bishop, California educator Barbara Kelley traveled to Chungba Primary School in LItang County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan, China. On her return from a summer of teaching she brought together a group of supporters for the students, a group now known as The Eastern Sierra Friends of Machik. Members of this group have assisted in telling the story of the children of Chungba and their education needs and have provided essential financial assistance for the students and for teacher education. As Machik’s programs and initiatives have evolved in the years since then, ESFOM members have continued to provide financial support to Machik. The core group of donors from 2005 has grown to include many others from out of the region, but all agree with ESFOM’s informal motto: Mountain People for Mountain People.
