Thank you to everyone who joined us for a Machik Film Screening in New York featuring Sacred Arrow by the late Pema Tseden, one of the greatest storytellers in Tibetan history.
The late Pema Tseden was born to a pastoralist family in Amdo and later became a school teacher who published bilingually to critical acclaim. He was the first Tibetan to graduate from the Beijing Film Academy, and in 2005 his first feature film, Silent Holy Stones, won the prestigious Golden Rooster Award for Best Directorial Début. Since then, his many films, including Tharlo (2015) and Snow Leopard (2023), won numerous awards around the world.
Sacred Arrow (2014) was a love story set in Tibet about archery, expectations, and the meaning of winning in a time of change.
Date: Friday, June 13
6:30pm: Film started
8–8:30pm: Discussion
Venue: Himalayan Library, 76-11 37th Ave, Jackson Heights, NYC
Machik was deeply honored to have worked with Pema Tseden for many years. He was the first Machik Weekend keynote speaker from Tibet, and he also screened a film and spoke at Machik’s 2013 Summer Enrichment Program in Amdo, Tibet.
The screening was free, and donations benefited Tibetan filmmakers and helped make future screenings possible. We were truly grateful to the Himalayan Library for their support in providing the space. Thank you to all who attended and helped make this gathering possible.
