We are pleased to invite you to a Machik Film Screening with TANC, featuring the film Jinpa by the late legendary filmmaker Pema Tseden.
Jinpa is an award-winning film that weaves a dream-like narrative of mystery, revenge, and redemption. It's about a truck driver who hits a sheep and picks up a hitchhiker with a hidden dagger. The driver drops off unaware that their encounter alters their destinies forever. Details are as follows:
Sunday 8 December
Venue: Tibetan Association of Northern California, 5200 Dalai Lama Ave., Richmond, CA
1:30pm: Screening begins
3pm: Post-screening discussion
Pema was born to a pastoralist family in Amdo and later became a school teacher who published bilingually to critical acclaim. In 2002, he was the first Tibetan to attend the Beijing Film Academy and in 2005 his first feature film, Silent Holy Stones, won the prestigious Golden Rooster Award for Best Directorial Début. Since then, his many films, including Tharlo (2015), Balloon (2019), and Snow Leopard (2023) have won many awards around the world. Pema Tseden passed away in May 2023 leaving behind one of the greatest storytelling legacies in Tibetan history.
Machik is honored to have worked with Pema Tseden for almost 20 years. He was the first Machik Weekend keynote speaker from Tibet, and lectured at Machik’s 2013 Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) in Amdo, Tibet.
While the screening is free, donations are welcome and will benefit filmmakers from Tibet. All are welcome so please invite your family and friends. We are truly grateful to the Tibetan Association of Northern California team for support in making this event possible.
Please RSVP at [email protected] and walk-ins are also welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!
